picking up the pieces

sometimes life just explodes. in good ways & unfamiliar & unexpected ways & it takes us a while to catch our balance again, regain our footing.

sometimes life explodes & the pieces just need to find their right place in the intricate, delicate balance that life is.  and that is what i have been up to lately, the intricate, delicate puzzle work of balance & this is why the ol' blog may have accidentally fallen by the wayside.

but the great thing about life explosions is that it provides plenty of writing material. :)

looking forward to catching up, friends.
regular blogging regime to recommence shortly.
thanks for checking in.

bad blogger anonymous

well, i did it again! another week without posting... i could blame it on that gorgeous weather we've been having, on the trillions of errands that took over my afternoons or on my hubby who hasn't been at a hundred percent capacity, leaving me as the only able bodied parent... oh yes, there are a great many things i could use as my excuse... but in usual blog tradition, here are two videos as a peace offering...
i was just thinking about how much i am loving the 3s and here are two reasons why...

"internet sabbath"

just a little note... i will be taking a brief sabbatical from blogging as i will be away with my hubby & my youngest taking a quick little cuban tour while the rest of the gang is chilling with the grandparents.  quiet is good.  disconnecting from all forms of technology, is necessary & mind renewing sometimes.  looking forward to reading & not writing.  feeling inspired by this article which i have already posted in my ponderings, but perhaps take a gander & clear your head.
rest well even in the busyness of life!

a blogger's birth plan

i found this amusing little video the other day & thought i would post it as penance for not being the most committed blogger over the holidays.  i don't have any recollection of this video being taken but steve said he thought it was so ridiculous he had to get it on tape.  all i can say is a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do to get that baby out! and the weirdest thing is, i think this post actually made sense.

{side note: this is after two days of being in the labor & delivery ward... i am not usually that unsympathetic or snippy or frowny!}

these are the letters that love wrote {love letters}

i am adding another fixture to the blog!  i have decided to write a love letter to my kids each week. not all of them every week, although there is plenty enough material, but each of them in their turn. i want to write them my love in hopes of immortalizing something.  how they inspired, how they convicted, how they changed me forever.  i don't ever want them forget how fiercely they are loved, chocolate smeared face & all.  i don't think i could ever quite accurately articulate just how much i love them.  but it's worth a try.
and so, these are the letters that love wrote.

{the ponderings}

i have decided to start a new little blog feature in the sidebar. with this wonderful worldwide web, i read so many incredible things in a day. i would love to get to the stage where i could respond to each of them in a blog post, however, there is to much to read/write for one tired mama. and they often say it just so much better. so i thought a little sidebar called the {the ponderings} would be a marvelous way to pass on some great finds that have encouraged, inspired or just nuzzled the old thinking cap. they are too lovely to not share. so check them out if you get the chance. hopefully, i will occasionally be able to respond to one or two in a blog post. but for now, this gives you a little idea of what i'm pondering at the moment. enjoy!

a secret not so secret

i have been secretly blogging for some time now. not because i have anything to hide, but just because i have the freedom to and maybe, if i was honest with myself, because i was a little bit afraid. afraid of what others might think or conclude about my thoughts, or the way i chose to organize my family. the intention of this blog was never to offend anyone or to appear as an authority on anything, passing out judgment to anyone who reads. my intention has always been to encourage & equip, while helping myself articulate & think about the way i do life. things always look so different up close. to be intentional about my perspective & my everyday practice as well as to keep a little scrapbook for myself to look back on once my kids are grown. a little souvenir if you will. i just love being a mom... why not savour it by writing it down and relive it for many years to come. writing for me is like a long sigh in the middle of the day. a deep breath and long gaze.

so with a little courage in my step, it's officially the un-secret blog. thanks kate for the little push - your detective skills are commendable! and thanks to my cousin jaime, my one & only reader up to this point, who has set such a high standard with her own incredible blog!
i hope you enjoy and read as intended.

the inner workings of a shellfish

i thought the title of this little blog needed some explaining. when i was younger, i was super shy... and maybe i still am but God had just done something powerful in me. i can remember when i was younger, my teachers would all say the same thing at every parent-teacher interview "...sarah is so sweet but painful timid. we'd love to see her come out of her shell a bit more." and so i thought this blog would be a great idea for me to share a little bit about what goes on inside that shell. i was inspired by my husband's favourite artist Tom Waits (he's definitely an acquired taste). a line from one of his stranger songs was "what's he building in there?". so much goes on inside that God never gets credit for. He has done incredible things in me, in my family, in my marriage, in my church, in my community, in my city. Very rarely is there a "suddenly", but usually there has been a process of tweaking, breaking, building behind the scenes. and so here's the deep work of God that he has begun and will see through to completion!
